You can create a connection using the L2TP protocol manually using the following instructions:
To add a necessary registry setting:
- Move the cursor to the lower right corner of the screen to access the Charms bar.
- Click on the Search option in the bar.
- In the search box that appears, type "regedit" and press Enter.
- You will be prompted to allow Administrator rights. Click Yes.
- In the left pane, locate and click the folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent
- Click the Edit menu and hover your cursor over New. Click DWORD Value.
- A new registry will appear in the right pane, named New Value #1.
- Rename that file: "AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule" (this is case-sensitive and contains no spaces) and press ENTER.
- Right-click AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule, then click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type "2" and click OK.
- Reboot the computer.
To configure the L2TP/IPsec connection:
- From the Desktop, right-click on the network icon in the Windows toolbar.
- Click Open Network and Sharing Center.
- Click Set up a new connection or network.
- Click Connect to a workplace then Next.
- Ensure No, create a connection is selected. Click Next.
- Click Use my Internet Connection (VPN).
- In the Internet address field, type one of the server hostnames found here.
- In the Destination name field, type a descriptive name, like VyprVPN.
- Click Create.
- Click Network and Sharing Center to make that window active.
- Click Change adapter settings on the left.
- Right-click your new connection and click Properties.
- Click the Security tab in the pop-up window.
- In the Type of VPN menu, select Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP/IPsec).
- Click Advanced settings.
- Ensure that Use preshared key for authentication and enter in thisisourkey. Click OK.
- Click the Data encryption menu.
- Select Maximum strength encryption.
- Click OK.
- Close Network Connections window.
To Connect:
- Press Win + i (the Windows key and the letter "i" at the same time).
- Click the Network Icon at the bottom of the side pane that appears on the right.
- Click on your new connection, then click the Connect button.
- Type in your Giganews Login and Password in their respective fields.
- Click OK.
To Disconnect:
- Press Win + i (the Windows key and the letter "i" at the same time).
- Click the Network Icon at the bottom of the side pane that appears on the right.
- Click your VPN connection, then click Disconnect.
